CRYSTAL WEBER COVERS: Bluebird

March 24, 2021

For the past month or so, I’ve been on a journey with this current blog series called “Crystal Weber Covers” in which I’ll upload an acoustic audio track of me playing some of my favorite songs. The tracks will be my own versions of the songs I cover, so they may or may not sound like the original.

This week’s feature song is “Bluebird” by Miranda Lambert. I love the majority of Miranda’s songs. I picked this one specifically because of its upbeat vibe alongside the fact of how life can really stink sometimes but it is possible to take what you’re dealt and make the best of it.

Appropriately (and ironically) fitting into that notion, the recording of this song I did had a phantom crackling noise that kept randomly popping up. Though I could have done another song take to try and get rid of it, I instead decided to go with it as is – imperfect and all – because the crackling made me think of an old record player, which in turn made me smile. So, there you go, lemonade from lemons! I hope you enjoy it.

The Lyrics of "Bluebird” (Miranda Lambert)

Yeah, I'm a turner

I turn pages all the time

Don't like where I'm at

34 was bad

So, I just turn to 35

Yeah, I'm a keeper

I keep digging down for the deep

Like the records I'm playing

They might keep you waiting

But you know I'm only playing for keeps

And if the house just keeps on winning

I got a wild card up my sleeve

And if love keeps giving me lemons

I just mix 'em in my drink

And if the whole wide world stops singing

And all the stars go dark

I'll keep a light on in my soul

Keep a bluebird in my heart

Well, I'm a giver

Yeah, and I'm still giving 'em hell

Forgiving's pretty hard

So, I've made an art

Out of forgetting 'em well

Yeah, I'm a rhymer

I can turn 20 cents into a 10

And if I get confused

And I start to lose

I'll rhyme a dime till it all makes sense

And if the house just keeps on winning

I got a wild card up my sleeve

And if love keeps giving me lemons

I just mix 'em in my drink

And if the whole wide world stops singing

And all the stars go dark

I'll turn a light on in my soul

And keep the bluebird in my heart

And if the house just keeps on winning

I got a wild card up my sleeve

And if love starts giving me lemons

I just mix 'em in my drink

And if the whole wide world stops singing

And all the stars go dark

I'll keep a light on in my soul

Keep a bluebird in my heart

I'll keep a light on in my soul

Keep a bluebird in my heart

Keep a bluebird in my heart

Why This Song?

Here are three of the lyrics that I can’t get enough of in this song: 1) “Like the records I'm playing, they might keep you waiting. But you know I'm only playing for keeps.” 2) “And if the house just keeps on winning, I got a wild card up my sleeve. And if love keeps giving me lemons I just mix 'em in my drink.” (3) “And if the whole wide world stops singing. And all the stars go dark. I'll keep a light on in my soul. Keep a bluebird in my heart.”

Whatever happens in life, keep on turning those pages. After all, you’re never completely out of the game, so long as you keep on playing. Sometimes we are kept waiting for something or someone in our lives and other times, it is us who keeps others waiting. I’ve been on both sides of this and neither is ideal. Life won’t always make sense in the moment. But sometimes when all seems lost our wild card magically appears, seemingly out of nowhere. Therefore, even when the lights go out and the world falls dark, I hope you’ll join me and be the spark.

Give my cover track a listen and let me know what other songs you’d like me to cover. And don’t forget to keep on, keeping on – until those dreams become reality.

Until next time,

Crystal
